RE-ENTRY IN ITALY FOR EXPIRED RESIDENCE PERMIT (PERMESSO DI SOGGIORNO) HOLDERS

Below are the rules currently in force for the re-entry into Italy for holders of residence permits that expired in the period between 31/01/2020 and 31/07/2020, but automatically extended until 31/08/2020 according the Legislative Decree 18/2020.

Return to Italy with direct flight (non-stop)
The rentry in Italy will be allowed without a re-entry visa and / or consular accompanying notes.

Return to Italy with air connections with a stopover in another Schengen country

In the case of indirect flight connections to Italy through an external border of the Schengen Area or a different Member State other than Italy, the reentry in Italy will be allowed only with a re-entry visa which can be issued by the Consulate General following the authorization by the Italian Police.

Return to Italy with air connections with a stopover in a non-Schengen country

In order to prevent any difficulties in transit through non-Schengen countries, the Consulate Geeneral may issue a consular note to those who request it.
