The identity card can be collected in person at the municipality or sent to the applicant&#8217;s foreign address. (Law 11\/2026)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Italian electronic ID cards (EIC or \u201c<strong>CIE\u201d according to the acronym in Italian<\/strong>) can be issued only to Italian citizens whose AIRE (Register of Italians living abroad) registration is complete and duly processed by Italian local Authorities. In order to apply at the Consulate General of Italy in Jerusalem you need to be resident in the jurisdiction of this Consulate.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Validity<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The validity, like passports, varies according to the holder\u2019s age:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3 years for minors under 3 years of age;<\/li>\n<li>5 years for minors between 3 and 18 years of age;<\/li>\n<li>\u00a010 years for adults.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>Application &#8211; Appointment<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The request for EIC must be submitted by sending an email to: consolare.gerusalemme@esteri.it, indicating in the subject line \u201c<strong>Request for electronic identity card CIE &#8211; name, surname, and date of birth<\/strong>\u201d, attaching the form below:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/consgerusalemme.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/CIE_richiesta_maggiorenni.pdf\">Application for adults <\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/consgerusalemme.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/CIE_richiesta_minorenni-1.pdf\">Application for minors under 18 years of age<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The appointment shall be scheduled NOT EARLIER THAN 15 days from the date of the application, in order to allow the Consulate to make sure your file is up-to-date and correct any old data.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Please note that being registered with A.I.R.E. is mandatory. Also, in case you were born abroad, it is also required that your birth certificate be registered with the Civil Status Registry of the Municipality of reference, as the registration details will be printed on your EIC.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong>Appointment and documents to be submitted<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The day of the appointment the following documents should be submitted:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 passport photo, in accordance with <a href=\"https:\/\/consgerusalemme.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/standard_icao_per_foto_documenti.pdf\">ICAO regulations<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>A valid ID. If the applicant has no identity document, he \/ she shall be accompanied by two witnesses;<\/li>\n<li>if the applicant is under the age of 18: an <a href=\"https:\/\/consgerusalemme.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/modAssenso.pdf\">affidavit<\/a> from both parents<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At the time of the appointment, we will capture<strong> applicant\u2019s photo and, except for minors under 12 years of age, fingerprints, and signature<\/strong>. This biometric info will be safely stored inside the EIC microchip and not kept on file here at the Consulate.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><strong>Cost<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The cost for issuing the document is:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>21.95 euros, in case of first issuance or renewal;<\/li>\n<li>27.11 euros, in case of a duplicate due to theft or loss.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Payments will be collected in cash in ILS the day of your appointment. To know the quarterly applicable rate, please visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/consgerusalemme.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/consular-fees-2\/\">Consular Fees\u00a0page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><strong>Delivery<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The <em>Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato<\/em> shall issue and then deliver the EIC by post to the Consulate within at least 15 days from the date of the application submitted. Delivery times may however vary.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li><strong> Discovery of identity cards<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Identity cards that are stolen or lost abroad, if found, are normally returned to the Consular Office in the district of which the theft or loss occurred.<\/p>\n<p>Those who have recently suffered a theft\/loss abroad and wish to check whether their identity card has been found, are therefore urged to contact the relevant Consular Office for further information.<\/p>\n<p>The above-mentioned documents may be collected from the Consular Office where they were found in the following ways:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>at the Consular Office\u2019s counters;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>at the request of the interested party, by postal service with the cost of postage borne by the said party.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>With reference to identity cards issued by Consulates, which are stolen or lost abroad, it shall be the Consular Offices\u2019 responsibility to notify the holder of their discovery, pointing out that they will be destroyed if their return is not requested within one year after the date on which they were found.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"IMPORTANT NEWS: From June 1, 2026, Italian citizens registered with the Registry of Italians Resident Abroad (AIRE) will also be able to apply for an electronic identity card at any Italian municipality.
