Self-Certification

Self-Certification or "autocertificazione" is a written statement to be used in relations with the public administration, agencies and providers of public servicesand, signed by the concerned person regarding his/her personal status and data.
Using a self-certification in relations with a private person is up to one's own discretion.

The new provisions concerning certificates and self-certification of art. 15, Law november 12, 2011 came into force on 01.01.2012.
As from this date onwards, certificates can be used solely in relations between private individuals, whereas the public administration will no longer require nor accept them, having been replaced by self-certification.

The rules on self-certification apply to Italian, EU citizens as well as to non-EU citizens legally residing in Italy as far as concerning data which can be verified or certified by Italian public entities.
