Rome, 5 June 2018.
Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses concern for the risk of demolition of the Bedouin village of Khan Al Ahmar.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy closely monitors the latest developments in the West Bank and in particular the risk of imminent demolition of the Bedouin village of Khan Al Ahmar, located in the so-called E1 area between Jerusalem and the Israeli settlement of Ma'ale Adumim, and of the so-called "School of Wheels", financed by Italian cooperation, where about 160 young students from five different communities receive education.
The demolition of the village would compromise the prospect of a contiguous Palestinian State and, consequently, of the two-States solution.
For this reason, as well as for humanitarian concerns and respect for international law, the Foreign Ministry therefore reiterates the request made on numerous occasions to the Israeli authorities to ensure that the above measures are not implemented.
Reiterating that the policy of expansion of settlements is contrary to international law and risks making the two-States solution unachievable, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses strong concern for the approval of more than 3,000 housing units in the West Bank, including in the Kfar Adumim settlement located near the village of Khan Al Ahmar.
