"Italy's Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses concern for possible demolition of Khan al Ahmar and viability of Two States"
Rome, 25 May - Over the past few months, Italy has made "high-level steps” with the Israeli authorities to persuade them to renounce the dismantling of the village of Khan al-Ahmar, the transfer of the Bedouin communities, as well as to defend the School of wheels, financed by the Italian cooperation. According to sources from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in relation to the decision of the Israeli Supreme Court to authorize the demolition of the school Rome is making every effort, also in coordination with the EU and the key European partners, to avert the feared demolitions by the Israeli military authority", explain the diplomatic sources. "The survival of the village and of this structure is very important for Italy and for the international community, not only for humanitarian reasons and respect of international law, but also because the eviction of Khan el Ahmar would jeopardize the territorial contiguity of the future Palestinian State, decisively eroding the viability of the two-state solution” Last week the Consul General of Italy, Fabio Sokolowicz, while taking part to a visit to the village and the School together with the other EU Heads of Mission had expressed the solidarity and support of the Italian Government.
